Homemade Honey & Apple Cider Vinegar Conditioner

Over the past year or so, I’ve tried countless different concoctions and recipes for finding natural and organic alternatives for the products I use everyday. Often, I end up holding a mason jar of gooey bath salts or with my shower caddy overflowing with hardly used bottles of promised “do-it-all” alternatives. But today, folks, I have a gem to share!

Once upon a time I used apple cider vinegar as conditioner, as many do, and loved how bouncy and light it left my hair feeling. After using it for awhile, I started to feel like it left my head burning afterwards (which I’ve since learned is because I was using it too often) and I quickly gave up. I’ve also read online quite a bit about honey used in conditioner to lighten hair and add moisture.

And so, a thought came! Why not combine the two? I’ve spent a few weeks messing with proportions and such, and now present to you… apple cider honey homemade conditioner!
1) In a small microwave-safe bowl/cup, combine 2 parts apple cider vinegar and 1 part honey (I used organic, but I suppose any would work). For my hair, I used about 2 teaspoons ACV and 1 teaspoon honey, but that could be adjusted depending on length and thickness of your hair.
2) Warm up the mixture for about 15 seconds, or until the honey becomes runny and easily mixes with the ACV. Stir!
3) Work the mixture into wet freshly-washed hair, beginning at the ends and working your way towards the roots. Tie your hair up or put it in a shower cap and let it soak in the mixture for about 15 minutes. If you do this while showering, you could take this time to wash yourself up, shave, etc.

4) Rinse with cool water and style as usual!

What homemade beauty products have you experimented with? Any successes?

  1. Thank you so much for posting this! I'd been using ACV but it never quite worked for my hair. Tried this, plus a dash of vegetable glycerin, and it's magnificent! Now, if only I loved the smell of vinegar...
