DIY Embroidered Shoes

Hey there! I must admit, I'm pretty darn excited about my new kicks. I love finding quick projects like this that I can whip up after work! I have had these plain white canvas shoes in my closet forever, and they never get worn. I've been trying to think of a way to spice them up, and finally came up with embroidery. I think embroidery is great because it's so diverse. You can make patterns, images, shapes... designs that are either messy or clean!

As far as directions for making the shoes, it's pretty simple. This post might be more aptly named "Inspiration" rather than "DIY."You'll need a needle with a hole wide enough to string embroidery floss through (embroidery floss is thicker than regular string and will help fill out your design!).

You can either freehand the design, or cut a pattern/shape out of paper and pin it to your shoes.  If you go with this process, just make your stitches around the edge of the paper and then remove it. I decided to freehand mine, and thought it'd be a lot of fun to make them mismatched!

A few tips: I found it was a bit easier to start my needle towards the two of the shoe, and then work my way towards the opening. That way you tie your final knot to hold the string closer to the opening where it's easier to reach. I also found the velcro strap on these shoes extra helpful; they made the opening extra wide so that I could easily fit my hands in!
